Mismatched couches and bookshelves, laid out more like a living room than a café, which is the closest thing on this list to a room designed for sitting a long time. Earliest close, so it is a morning-through-afternoon spot only.

Far enough south that you will not run into half your section, which is the argument for it. The drive only makes sense if you are going for a long block, not a quick hour between classes.

Latest closing time after Books & Books, and open 9pm on Sundays when the Gables is shut. The tradeoff is the commute: budget an hour round trip if you are moving at rush hour.

Worth taking seriously: the person who gave the most recommendations also walked them back within a minute. Treat these as good-atmosphere spots, and keep the law library for the sessions that need actual silence.

Vicky’s Café
In the food court next to the law school. Named the best Cuban coffee within walking distance, ahead of the chains.
Starbucks & Peet’s
Both on campus. The reliable, unexciting option.
The bricks pop-up
A coffee stand runs on the bricks during the week; a matcha/coffee truck rotates through too.
King’s cafecito
The law school IT guy walks the library handing out shots of Cuban coffee, most days. Free, and apparently the best perk in the building.
